My Experience At Bo-Kaap

Hayet RidaComment

Bo- Kaap has always been that spot in Cape Town I wanted to visit, so this time when I made it back to the city, I was all about getting there any means necessary. "Take me to the street with the colorful houses!!!!"

Turning up onto Wale street where Bo- kappa essentially starts from my end, it felt like I was stepping into a whirlpool that led me into another world. The colors literally captivate you. I needed a minute to collect myself in order to move up the street.

The Bo-Kaap is an area of Cape Town, South Africa formerly known as the Malay Quarter, deeply rooted in Malaysian, Indian, African, Sri Lankan Culture. Bo- Kaap has a rich multicultural history dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries. In the oldest building, lies the stories, facts, resources to help learn about the history of Bo-Kaap. They call this the Bo-Kaap Museum. The area is also the hub for Muslim population so one can find numerous beautiful mosques in the area.

Those smiles on my face was the real deal. Something about being in such a vibrantly colored space makes you feel alive.

Bo-Kaap attracts many tourists yearly with tours of the area happening every three hours.
